Fukuburger Truck

Anyone in Las Vegas, or about to go there must grab some Fukuburger. It's probably not the healthiest but is certainly the yummiest. Fukuburegr is not located in a certain area. They have new stops in their truck everyday. You must check their website or follow them on twitter to see where they're at. The co-owners are Colin Fukunaga and Robert “Mags” Magsalin. OMG my mouth is watering hehe.

Valuable Lesson

From James Harvey Robinson's enlightening book The Mind in the Making:

We sometimes fine ourselves changing our minds without any resistance or heavy emotion, but if we are told we are wrong, we resent the imoutation and harden our hearts. We are incredibly heedless in the formation of our beliefs, but find ourselves filled with an illicit passion for them when anyone proposes to rob us of their companionship. It is obviously not the ideas themselves that are dear to us, but our self-esteem which is threatened ... The little word "my" is the most important one in human affairs, and properly to reckon with it is the beginning of wisdom. It has the same force whether it is "my" dinner, "my" God. We not only resent the imputation that our watch is wrong, or our car shabby, but that our conception of the canals of Mars, the pronunciation of "Epictetus," of the medicinal value of salicin, or of the date of Sargon I is subject to revision. We like to continue to believe what we have been accustomed to accept as true, and the resentment aroused when doubt is cast upon any of our assumptions leads us to seek every manner of excuse for clinging to it. The result is that most of our so-called reasoning consists in finding arguments for going on believing we already do.

Bottom line is show respect for other person's opinions. Never say "You're Wrong".

Crazy as a Coconut

What smells remind you of Summer? Sunscreen, mangoes, gardenia flowers, salt air, watermelon and of course, COCONUT!!

Well, I'm a coconut freak. I don't know what it is, maybe because it reminds me of somewhere in an island escape. I love everything and anything that has to do with coconut. I love coconut scents, drinking coconut water, eating a fresh cut coconut, coconut body stuff, coconut shampoo and conditioner, coconut lip balm and lipgloss, coconut scented candles, coconut cake, coconut trees ... etc. Here are some random things that I simply adore:

What's not to love?

Healthy Summertime Snacks

Instead of fattening ice creams, choose summer snacks based on fruits, vegetables, whole grains and low-fat diary. This keeps the calories low while still packing in the healthy vitamins, minerals and fiber. Choose foods that cool you down, don't need cooking and make the most of produce at its peak in summer.

Melon Salad

A melon salad is a refreshing low-calorie snack that cools you down. One cup of watermelon only contains about 46 calories and almost no fat, making it a low-calorie snack to help you control your weight. A snack should be around 100 to 200 calories, so you can indulge in a melon salad. Mix watermelon with cantaloupe and honeydew melons or add in sweet summer blueberries and strawberries.

Ants on a Log

Ants on a log is a healthy snack made of celery sticks topped with peanut butter and raisins. It works well in summer because it doesn't need cooking and you can put it together in minutes. Celery is a high-fiber food and peanut butter is a healthy source of both protein and unsaturate fat. This quick healthy snack will leave you feeling satisfied and is easy to take with you for a summer picnic. To change things up, use apple slices instead of celery sticks.

Bean Salads

Cold salads made with black beans, pinto beans or chickpeas make a healthy snack or lunch and are high in fiber and protein. Drizzle with olive oil to add some healthy fats. Examples include three-bean salads and black bean whole-grain couscous salads.

Hummus

Hummus made with chickpeas and vegetable oil is ready-to-eat, does not require cooking and is a source of protein, making it a simple summer snack. Dip whole-grain pretzels, whole-grain crackers or carrot sticks in the hummus to increase your dietary fiber and complete this healthy snack idea.

Soy Smoothies

Cool soy smoothies make a refreshing treat on a hot day. Add additional ice to make it extra-cool. Blend soy milk with low-fat soy yogurt, peanut butter, bananas and honey for a filling snack. Or, use almond milk and almond butter with strawberries and blueberries at their peak of sweetness.

Summer Is Here!!!

Summer IS HERE. Hydration is as important as ever! In fifth grade, we learned that the human body is primarily made up of fluids. Yet, here we are, adults, and we still don’t fully understand what that means. If we truly did understand it, we’d all be following a much different diet, and processed foods and fast food restaurants would be a thing of the past.

The Human Body ...

The human body is made up of between 70 and 80 percent water. Naturally, if our bodies are composed of mostly liquids, in order to properly maintain the correct liquid levels within the body, we should feed our bodies plenty of liquids, right? Notice the emphasis is on liquids, not necessarily water. While a woman requires approximately nine glasses of liquid per day to replenish liquids lost through natural bodily functions, men require approximately 12. But if we’re being honest, we’d probably have to admit that it’s a rare day, indeed, when we put that same amount of liquid back into the body through water or other liquids.
That’s where food comes into play. The magic eight glass of water per day takes care of the majority of it. The rest must come from the foods we eat. In order to get the remaining two to four cups of liquid, it’s important to hydrate with foods that are high in water content as well as antioxidants and nutrition.

Fruits and Vegetables ...

We require fruits and vegetables on a regular basis. Because not all fruits and vegetables have the same liquid or water content, it’s important to know your foods inside and out.
The food with the highest water content is the tomato. Ninety-seven percent of this vegetable is water. The rest is filled with antioxidants, vitamins and delicious nutrition. In comparison, red juicy watermelon is about 93 percent water.

Food and % Water Content:

Tomatoes – 97
Cucumber – 96
Lemon – 96
Zucchini – 95
Celery – 95
Watermelon – 93
Green Cabbage – 93
Cauliflower – 92
Carrots – 92
Red Bell Pepper – 91
Strawberry – 91
Broccoli – 91
Lime – 91
Grapefruit – 90
Peach – 89
Cranberry – 89
Cantaloupe – 89
Tangerine – 88
Apricot – 87
Blackberry – 85
Apple – 84

Food is the building block upon which the body operates. Fruit and vegetables are high in potassium, as well as high in fiber and water, and yet low in calories. If you want to feel even better every day and have even more energy, buy organic fruits and vegetables.
